About the Society

At an EGM in May 2007 a committee proposal that the Society be wound up due to :-

•  falling membership,

• the closing of the 'Packet' and difficulty in getting lots for the Auction,

• difficulty in getting members to volunteer for officer posts and the committee,

• rising cost of the hall and speakers,

was put to the membership.

An amendment was tabled proposing that the activities of the Society should be revised along the following lines :-

• Reduce the number of meetings to one per month (see programme )

• Increase the subscriptions to £10 per year

• Increase the charge for tea and biscuit to 20p

• Still have a raffle twice a year (November and May) but no auction or packet.

The venue for the meetings will still be Shawe Hall Community Centre, Church Road, Urmston.
Meetings begin at 7.30pm, with refreshments at about 9pm, and end by 10pm.

The Amendment was carried unanimously.

At the AGM, two weeks later, the above amendment was implemented with all officer positions and committee positions filled.

These will be £10 per year starting in January 2008. (see above)
